Her journey to naturopathic medicine began at a young age. Having family members who were medical doctors made her aware of the healing arts early on. Throughout the years, she was able to shadow these doctors, allowing her to see firsthand the day-to-day practice of conventional physicians. While she recognized their skills and expertise, the traditional medical paradigm of specialists and symptom management made her realize that this system doesn’t always treat the root causes of disease.
Dr. Tonnu believes that working as a team with all of your healthcare providers will garner the greatest outcomes and resolution of health concerns. In her training, she has honed her skills in taking the lead in managing many complex cases.
Dr. Tonnu believes health is not just the absent of disease, but a way of bringing balance back to the body, mind, and spirit. She believes that the body is the biological foundation of health; it has the natural ability to heal itself if given the correct environment and support to do so. She made the decision to attend naturopathic instead of conventional medical school because she felt this would allow her scope of practice to be more comprehensive and holistic, allowing a wider embrace of the uniqueness of every individual.
During her medical training, she traveled through Europe and Australia, which added to her education and appreciation of other countries and cultures and their varied approaches to nutrition and medicine.
When not helping patients, Dr. Tonnu enjoys spending time with family and friends; and exploring the wonders of nature through a variety of outdoor activities.
